On a free guided tour, you'll get a glimpse into the complete process of rum making, from the fragrant molasses to aging in barrels according to the classic Soleras y Criaderas system. You'll walk past gleaming copper kettles, wooden barrels and walls full of history. The guides - passionate and proud - will take you through the story of this iconic local rum, known far beyond Spain for its character and quality.

Whether you're a seasoned rum aficionado or just curious about the process, a visit to Rum Montero is a tasty yet educational outing. The tour lasts about an hour and ends with a tasting of their best-known rums - from smooth and fruity to spicy and powerful. The tour is free, but note that it is only open to those 18 and older. Tours are available Tuesday through Saturday, at noon in Spanish and at 1 p.m. in English. For groups, advance reservations are smart. Afterwards, walk right into the center of Motril for lunch or a walk on the beach - but bet you'll grab a bottle first?
