A waterfall in the sea? Yes, at Maro so
There are those places that quiet you for a moment. The waterfall of Maro is one of those. A 15-meter-high cascade that, when there is sufficient rainfall, thunders directly from the mountains into the Mediterranean Sea. Not accessible by car, not to be seen from the road. Only by water, with a kayak or SUP, you paddle to it - and that is exactly what makes it so special.
Here's how to get there (and what you need to know)
You can start your tour in two places:

Playa de Maro: closest to the waterfall and our recommendation. From here you can get to the waterfall in 20 to 30 minutes.
Burriana Beach (Nerja): also possible, but you'll be on the road a little longer (about 45 minutes out).

At both beaches you can rent a kayak or SUP. Bring water, sunscreen and possibly lunch in a drybag. Renting a kayak? Expect a 3 to 4 hour trip if you also want to take a break.
The waterfall itself: season and magic
Note that the Cascada de Maro is there only when there is sufficient water. In spring (during rainy months) it is at its most spectacular - although it is not possible to sail right under it then because of the strength of the water. In summer, it is calmer and more accessible by kayak.
The sight is impressive: water clatters off the rocks as you paddle right under the cliffs. The sound, the coolness, the splashing drops ... for a moment it feels like you have landed somewhere on the coast of South America.
Lunch with your feet in the water
After the waterfall, you come to a small bay with clear, turquoise water. Ideal for mooring and swimming or picnicking. Then, if you like, you can sail on to Burriana Beach, where the first chiringuitos await you for a cold drink or plate of sardines.
Practical tips in a row

Leave early in high season - parking at Playa de Maro is limited.
Bring your snorkel. The marine life around the cliffs is surprisingly rich.
Respect nature: do not touch walls, stay away from the waterfall if the current is too strong.

This route is one of the hidden gems of the Acantilados de Maro-Cerro Gordo. Sea and mountains come together here in a story you would rather experience for yourself than explain to someone else.
