On the outskirts of the village of Maro, near Nerja, lies a world hidden underground: the Cueva de Nerja. Discovered by chance in 1959 by a group of young people, this impressive cave has since become one of Spain's most visited natural monuments. On a guided tour, you will walk past colossal stalactites, mysterious niches and even petroglyphs that are thousands of years old. The acoustics are so special that concerts are even held there in the summer. Wear good shoes, as the surface can be slippery - but what you get in return is pure natural theater.
Whether you come with children, with your partner or alone, the Cueva de Nerja is an experience to remember for everyone. The route is well trodden, audio guides are available, and outside the cave you'll find a restaurant with mountain views. The visit takes about 1-2 hours, and with an entrance fee starting at €15, it is an affordable highlight of your vacation. Please note that food and drinks are not allowed inside the cave, but outside you can relax with a drink in the sun.
