Home " Experiences " Visit to the Castillo de Salobreña
High above the whitewashed town of Salobreña towers the Castillo de Salobreña - an Arab castle that has watched over the coast and surrounding valley for centuries. As soon as you walk through the gates, you sense how this place once served as a strategic vantage point and royal residence. The walls are sturdy, the steps narrow, and everywhere you find vistas to a time when the Moors ruled this region. You walk through courtyards, past watchtowers and over ramparts, with the sound of the wind and sea always in the background.
But it is the views that make this castle truly unforgettable. Stand still on one of the bastions and look out over the shimmering Mediterranean Sea on one side, and the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada on the other. In spring, you'll see the fields in the valley below full of colorful flowers. This contrast between coast and mountains, between history and nature, makes the castle a place where you linger.
The Castillo de Salobreña is not a big museum or crowded attraction - and that is precisely its charm. Here you walk around in peace, without being overwhelmed by crowds. It is perfect for anyone who loves history with a physical dimension: walking over stones that have been where they are for a thousand years. And whether you come with your family, partner or in a group - the view shares itself.
Do bring some water or a snack with you, as catering facilities are not readily available. Admission is kindly priced: adults pay €4, children under 12 get in free and groups of 12 or more pay only €2 per person. Allow about an hour and a half to two hours for your visit. The castle is open daily from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. - perfect for a morning or evening stroll in the fresh air.
