City mountain of Málaga - Monte Gibralfaro
Walk up for the best views of city, sea and history
A green lung in the middle of the city, with stone paths winding up past pine trees and vantage points. The City Mountain - Monte Gibralfaro - is not a hidden spot, but it feels like a discovery.
From Plaza de la Merced or the Jardines de Puerta Oscura, walk up stairs or a winding path. Along the way, pause at the Mirador de Gibralfaro: the balcony of Málaga. Here you look out over the arena, the harbor, the roofs of the old center and, on a clear day, even towards Africa.
Atop the hill (about 130 meters high) stands the Castillo de Gibralfaro. That castle is worth a visit in itself, but even without entrance, the mountain itself is an experience. Whether you go early in the morning for silence, or toward sunset for the play of light over the city - this hike lets you see Malaga from a different side.
